A trip to Prunier in Paris - 28.11.11

Last Thursday, we ventured to Paris at the invitation of the Prunier Restaurant.

After reaching Gare de Nord, we climbed into a taxi and attempted to speed through Paris…

We should have taken this mind…

as there were a heck of a lot of these…

Anyway, we just about arrived at Prunier on time… (around 1pm)

where we had time to gaze into theĀ  lavish windows of the restaurants…

…one of which proudly displayed Madame Prunier’s Fish Cookery book

…which we had reissued in a lovely new Quadrille edition back in April.

The restaurant itself had so many lovely features such as the art deco staircase

and the signs that hung all around the ground floor….

The corridors upstairs included these lovely wall lights…

…and beautiful classic menus from times long gone also adorned the walls…

But back to the now… Nicolas and the whole team at the restaurant greeted us with some lovely champagne…

in the Salon Traktir and we were also given some time to look at the Salon Izba

The team at Prunier then allowed us to go behind the scenes downstairs in the kitchen…

where we continued to enjoy our champagne!

The crockery at Prunier is something else…

We then returned to the Salon Traktir

to enjoy the special menu that had been prepared for us by the Head Chef, Eric, and his team in the kitchen.

The first course was Huitre au caviar Prunier (Rock Oyster with Prunier caviar)

then some excellent white wine was poured…

…to accompany our second course of Noix de coquilles Saint-Jacques et filet de sole facon Prunier - also know as Prunier-style scallop with fillet of sole!

The third course came from our book and this is known as Sheep trotters a la Poulette…

The fourth course was my personal favourite - Traditional Bordeaux-style sturgeon fricandeau…

and we finished with Emile Prunier’s petits pots de creme…

Luckily, the Prunier restaurant no longer has problems such as this…

And kindly allowed us to be the guests of their most generous hospitality!
